Some facts are debatable and still others are malleable and we can present them in different ways. Many are rather like statistics they need interpretation.

Okay, but facts, not emotions, should be the basis for making intelligent decisions. It’s up to competing interests to present the facts as they see them, then people can decide how to sort it out.

The world is not black and white its ok for those who may have the time and intelligence to probe and rake. It is the art of propoganda to take advantage of us and we are surrounded by manipulators.
Experts may not be honest they may have ulterior motives.
What are intelligent decisions? I might well define them as the ones that I make, except I change according to the outcome I hope to achieve.
We stand on shifting ground throughout our lives
unless we choose to anchor ourselves to a religious rock. On examination those solid rocks change with time and place so we are left to take what solace we can.

      What are intelligent decisions?
Maybe you’ll get the hang of it if I give you some suggestions.
Picking up a rattlesnake would be a bad decision, unless you are a trained snake-handler. It’s not a gray area, it isn’t shifting sand. It’s a fact.
Telling your wife she looks fat is rarely a good decision if you want a happy home. It’s a fact, even though there may be a few exceptions.
Farting in an elevator is a bad decision. Telling your mother-in-law you really like her meat loaf is probably an intelligent decision, whether you do or not.
Yelling “fire” in a theater or yelling “hijack” in a jet would be examples of very bad decision-making.
What makes them intelligent or not are the facts of experience and knowledge of human behavior that strongly indicate the consequences of doing such things.
Maybe in your little world everything is so squishy that you just can’t make distinctions or intelligent decisions. Here in the real world, most of us can, and we have special provisions for those who can’t.

The decision to use drugs like cocaine and heroine is not intelligent. Refusing to do so when invited by friends is a very intelligent decision, even if it means losing those “friends”.
The decision to murder someone is not an intelligent decision. Refusing to do so is a very intelligent decision, even if someone offers you thousands of dollars to do it for them.
What distinguishes intelligent from unintelligent decisions are the facts of the consequences of those decisions, those actions. Using drugs will almost certainly have a negative impact on the user’s life, in terms of health, and in terms of legal implications. Facts. Killing for money is likely to result in unbearable feelings of guilt and even more unbearable years in prison. Facts.

In my big all-inclusive world decision making is not always cut an dried and the consequences are not always forseeable.
Get those factual glasses off Den most of life is not simple. Throw your super- confidence out of the window.
Now we see but through a glass darkly’

    1. den_of_iniquity2

No, YOU see but through a glass darkly. No need to project your own personal problems on the rest of the world. I didn’t say life is simple, or that things are always cut and dried or that consequences are always foreseeable. We can see well enough to make intelligent decisions most of the time based on facts, logic, and reason, not emotions, and not imagination. It really isn’t complicated unless you choose to try to make it so. Not an intelligent decision.
