I disagree. I think anger is a negative emotion, which often provokes negative decision making, which often result in negative consequences. I would suggest that the world would be better off with more commitment to reason.

Good point. Anger often is counterproductive. But it is also at times what we need to get us to take action that is needed. It’s often unavoidable, so we just need to learn how to deal with it appropriately. Solid reasoning is essential, but humans are emotional, and that can be a positive thing in measured quantities. Suppressed anger over time can lead to an emotional explosion.

Here’s an example of what (I think) Jarrett is referring to. Thanks to a feckless and reckless “war on drugs”, we have suffered from asset forfeiture abuse for decades. When I call attention to it, a lot of my friends refuse to listen because cops are their friends, and apparently, to these folks, cops can do no wrong. If people would finally face facts, get mad as hell and refuse to take it any more, we would get the law changed and the abuse stopped.

The war on drugs is easily shown to be a counterproductive policy by evidence and reason.

Anger is a signal that something needs to change.

Yes, but sometimes what needs to change is the person who is angry. For example, if I were to get mad at you, that would be an obvious sign that you need to change. On the other hand, if you were to get really pissed at me, that would be an obvious sign that you need to change. See how that works?

Haha – yes, I see how that works. Like I said, it means there should be change of some sort! ;-)

What the world needs is more love & understanding ! Anger, will always be… one letter short of danger.

I don’t agree. Not entirely, anyway. Love & understanding often don’t work. It doesn’t stop Islamic terrorists. It doesn’t stop civil asset forfeiture abuse. It doesn’t stop violent crimes. There are times when people need to get mad and take action, and failure to do so is part of the problem.
